New Sound and Model set now available for download!
After more than 6 months of intensive work we are proud to announce the new Soundset V3 available as a free download to all Neuron users under "Downloads". To work with Soundset V3, you first need to install the Modelset V3 on your Neuron. For technical reasons (Modelset V3 is about 1.6 Gigabytes big) it is only available through your Neuron dealer or directly through your distributor (see list of "distributors" on this website).
Since the release of OS 1.3 in July 2003 it has been possible to load very large Models into the Resynators (up to 192 MB for a standard Neuron with 256 MB of RAM). On this basis, many exciting Models have been generated, representing more than just an extension of the factory set, which has also been heavily re-worked. The new Models range from impressive natural instruments via classic synth sounds and native instruments to breath-taking effects clusters and drum loops. Hartmann's sound designers have used these Models to create a new Sound set that proves once again the pioneering possibilities of the Neuron technology (soundlist_fact_set_3_new.pdf).
Modelset V3 will be shipped on 3 CD ROMs. The Modelset itself is free of cost, while a surcharge of EURO 12.00 for the production of the CDRs, plus a fixed fee for delivery will be charged.

OS 1.3 is here!
The new operating system pushes Neuron one step closer to being THE sound designer's dream machine. The most important innovation: The Neuron engine now allows the use of extremely large model data sets (up to 192 Mbytes for a standard Neuron with 256 MB RAM). This means that large samples can now be converted to Neuron models and then manipulated in detail - or very drastically - whichever way you want!
The response of the audio engine has been improved again.
The above-mentioned extension of the model size has also caused us to overhaul the standard model set of Neuron. Apart from a dramatic improvement of the sonic quality of the models (before OS 1.3 it was only possible to work on models no bigger than 12Mbytes) all sample material used to create the basic models is being revised. All Neuron users can look forward to this - of course free - model and sound data update that will be available soon in the members' download area of our homepage.
USB002 Maintenance Pack now available!
Via the Neuron USB port you now can directly connect any external storage device (such as a hard disk, Zip-drive, CD/DVD drive, memory-stick, etc.). All data transfers (for data backup/recovery, OS updates, new sounds/models or sytem-exclusive data) can now be accomplished very easily. In addition to that, support for a USB-to-USB bridge (a cable with a controller chip in the middle and a "Type A" USB connector at both ends) is now available. This allows the direct connection between a computer's USB port and Neuron's USB port and runs the network protocol TCP/IP. This is particularly useful for computers without a network port.
UTEA 01 USB to Ethernet Adapter now available!
Since the release of the USB001 maintenance pack (also included in the new USB002 pack), a large number of 3rd party USB to network adapters can be used to get Neuron connected to a computer. Nevertheless, users keep asking us for a reliable "Hartmann" solution. This is now available at your Hartmann dealer. The UTEA 01 package includes (besides the compact adapter itself and a short "safety" cord) a "crosslink" cable that makes it possible to connect Neuron directly to the ethernet port of your computer (PC or MAC).

Neuron reviews in the international press
"Neuron: au coeur du son" - headlines the renowned French magazine "Recording Musician", issue 20 / 2003. After a good look inside, Éric Inglebert praises the innovative concept, the sonic quality and the striking ergonomics of Neuron. Merci Recording Musician!
The title of the Future Music review reads "Hartmann Neuron - the rebirth of cool... it's taken it's time getting here, but the biggest synth of the millenium has arrived...". Andy Jones, who testdrove the Neuron in a 9 page review concludes "FM Editor's choice! ... even taking price onboard, this is a superb synth. Couple versatility with that high cost and you're guaranteed that the sounds you make are going to be pretty much unique." 10 points for "Built Quality", 10 points for "Versatility" and 10 points for "Sound Results". Thank you Andy and Future Music!

Neuron wins PPV award for innovation and gets nominated for the MIPA award 2003
After a truly overwhelming test report on the Neuron Synthesizer in German "Keys" Magazine, April 2003 issue, Hartmann receives the award for innovation from PPV for the Neuron synthesizer.
We feel happy and honoured to receive this precious award. Thank you to all the people at PPV who were involved in this and thank you to the Neuron team, that made this instrument possible and finally happen!
At the Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Hartmann presented the brand new Neuron sound set (which covers more than 180 breathtaking sounds, downloadable here) to an interested audience. Also, MODELmaker - the software that allows the user to transfer samples (.aiff format) into Neuron models - was presented in its final version for Mac OS9.
Every year, 55 MI magazines from all over the world choose their product of the year. After just 3 months on the market, Neuron was nominated as one of the three best hardware synthesizers. The glamorous ceremony was organized by Musik Media Verlag / Germany, who is the publisher of German Keyboards Magazine. After a very promising preview in the April issue of German Keyboards, we are now anxiously awaiting the full blown test in one of the upcoming issues.

Welcome on board Hans!
Hartmann gmbh proudly announces, that Nr.1 Hollywood filmscore writer Hans Zimmer has entered the company as partner and member. Hans about the Neuron Synthesizer and his motivation to join the jung Hartmann Company:
"It is not just it's full, great, wide, unexpected sound - it is the ease and the elegance how Neuron is giving me access to the most delicate details of a sound. With the touch of a button, I can call up a new (sound)model for the resynator. From there you start to "sculpt" audio in a way, you would never have imagined before. Think of a virtual piece of clay, that you can shape with a data-glove - a glove, that knows, what treatments will fit to the material and that feels, what the artist finally wants his sonic sculpture to sound like. Neuron is the first synthesizer, that really acts, feels and sounds 3-dimensional; just think of it's surround options and how easy everything can be animated just by recording stick movements... And the best of all, - Neuron always keeps you in the picture by displaying all that is going on with "real world" names in its numereous displays.
After meeting Axel (Axel Hartmann, president and co-founder of Hartmann gmbh) and the first neuron renderings in may 2001, I already felt, that this was a technology, that could really move sounddesign to a next tremendeous step. Seeing now, what from those first ideas has finally made it into the product, I simply had to supply theese guys and I am proud to be a part of the company now."
We at Hartmann are happy and proud to welcome Hans on board. His spirit as a friend and musician will help us, to permanently improve the Neuron technology. Hans is both one of our most rigid critics and, at the same time, a highly inspirative user of the Neuron.
